As you are only too well aware, the last 12 months has seen the biggest economic
downturn to affect the world in living memory. The resulting recession has hit the
construction industry particularly hard, which in turn has adversely impacted on hire
companies, plant makers and magazines like PHE which serve the sector.
The income from advertising has allowed PHE to be professionally produced with
original, informed editorial and mailed to its readers free of charge each month.
However, without sufficient advertising the magazine is not viable and research
indicates that, in the short term, too few plant makers will decide to pay to promote
their wares to the UK plant hire industry.
So it is with sadness that we have to inform you that the June 2009 issue of PHE is
the last magazine to be produced by our small independent publishing company
Executive Magazines Ltd.
Unfortunately, from a financial standpoint, PHE (as a
standalone printed publication) is currently in the wrong sector at the wrong time.
David Holmes, who has been responsible for not only selling the advertising space in
PHE but also carrying out other essential managerial roles, is now planning to take
early retirement.
Editor Nick Johnson is currently exploring a number of different
options that will allow him to continue to write about construction machinery and plant
hire. If you want to be kept advised of developments please register your interest to

It has been a privilege for both of us to have been involved in producing PHE in its
current form over the last 22 years. Thank you for helping us in what has been a very
enjoyable task.
